We all needed appliances. Just look at this state-of-the-art freezer. Not much has changed. Now we have better insulation, energy efficiency, and higher prices. Did they have frost-free anything in 1958?

We're still using a 50's model Coldspot at work. Used every day without a problem, except for the freezer icing up all the time. Then if you defrost it overnight, the water tray fills and overflows out of the frig and onto the floor. We also have two other small refrigerators, one that's built with a sink above on one side and electric burners on the other. American ingenuity at work.
